STEELBAR SFR-979:

Fire proofing with Intumescent Paint is the most modern & internationally accepted method for protection of Steel Structures, Flammable Liquid Units & Storage vessels against the damaging effect of fire. Intumescent Paint when used in conjunction with detection devices represents an important segment of overall loss prevention.

Current architectural concepts for high rise buildings rely more on Rafter type construction avoiding concrete beams resulting in space saving and greater economy.

In the event of fire the decorative COBRA STEELBAR SFR - 979 quickly encloses the steel in reliable carbon foam which slows down the temperature rise in steel and protects the construction against premature collapse up to two hours.

Function of Intumescent Coatings:-

In the event of fire, the intumescent coating produces a residue which is puffed by escaping gases. It produces tough insulating foam which will protect material over which it is formed. Such type of coating is called an intumescent coating..

Fire Protection Of Steel With STEELBAR SFR-979:

Steelbar SFR-979 is a smooth, thin, easy to apply coating, which replaces the traditional labour intensive cladding and encasement method. Steelbar SFR-979 is an Intumescent (it swells when heated) Paint that protects structural steel work from fire.

The ability of SFR-979 to retard the rate of heat transfer results from the chemical characteristics of its constituents. At a temperature of more than 250° C,. they undergo a series of reactions that create an expanded low density foam structure, with excellent heat insulating properties. This low conductivity carbon char forms a barrier between the fire and steel surface, which substantially decreases the temperature rise of the metal, effectively protecting it during the severest of fire.

Primer Coating Using STEELBAR SFR- 979

Steelbar SFR-979 is a non-flammable (when dry) anti-corrosive primer which provides a very high degree of corrosion resistance to the substrate. For steel work, which is already primed, only one coat is required.
Coverage of the Primer is 9-10 SQM / Ltr / Coat.

STEELBAR SFR- 979

Steelbar FR-979 is applied in multiple coats at short intervals. This coating is Corrosion Resistant ,totally Water & Acid/Alkali Resistant with excellent adhesion properties to the Steel and Aluminium surface. The coating has a high degree of flexibility, thus preventing the formation of cracks due to the thermal expansion of steel work. No lathing or reinforcement is required due to low thickness of coating.

Top Coat

Use top coat for structural steel work exposed to weathering or for use in enclosed compartment with wet or humid ambient conditions.

  • Coverage 8-9 sqm / Ltr /r Coat.

30 minutes rating 1.5 mm @ approx. 2.7 Kg./Sq. m.
60 minutes rating 2.2 mm @ approx. 4 Kg./Sq. m.

SFR-979 would be 2.7 Kg per SQM. with dry coating thickness of 1.5mm.

The product is one hour fire rating as per ASTME-119 and BS: 476 Part 8.

Introduction

The need to protect cables from fire needs no emphasis. Electrical cables are usually insulated with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), which contribute not only to the rapid spread of fire, but also produce highly poisonous and corrosive gases upon combustion. Dense smoke from cables additionally hinders firefighting efforts and approach to the area of fire.

Fire in cable run can spread as fast as 20 meters per minutes.

The importance of fire safety in cable runs has been well recognized. Bureau of Indian Standard has also formulated code of practice for fire safety vide IS: 12459-1988, which calls for fire protection to cables in galleries by way of compartmentalization by painting Cables with suitable fire retardant compounds to retard the spread of fire.

Product Feature

  • The cable coating does not deteriorate due to continuous working at 80 deg C
  • Does not affect the ampacity of the cables, when coated upto 2.5 mm thickness.
  • Non Toxic and halogen free
  • Does not contain any flammable solvents.
  • Can be applied without shut-down on LT/H.T Cables.

Coverage

2.8 Kg/sqm for single cables and 3.5Kg/sqm for bunched cables to achieve 1.5-2mm nominal dry coating thickness

Application Method

COBRA CABLEMATIC SFR-999 is One Time application for the life of the cables and is very simple to apply by brush as it is available in brush able consistency
Remove dust and grease. Apply a thin first coat of CABLEMASTIC and allow it to dry for 4/6 hours. Subsequent coats to be applied at 4-6 hours interval. Five or six coats are normally required to achieve nominal dry coating thickness of 2 mm. Allow to hard dry for 72 hours.

Application Areas

The use of CABLEMASTIC SFR-999 is recommended based on International specifications and Code of Practices followed worldwide by creating compartments by painting of cables to a length of app. 1.5 metres-2 meters (To prevent jumping over of flames) at intervals of appx.5 meters (For long cable runs) or full length depending upon the density of the cables on the following areas.

  • Cables under control panels.
  • Near cable joints and around cable crossing App. 1.5 meter on both sides of joints.
  • Cables affected by coal dust depositions/oil / lubricant spillage.
  • Cables near battery room and high temp. Areas.
